Did Nickel Creek break up?
Nickel Creek had a successful run with five studio albums and a compilation, but after their Farewell (For Now) Tour in 2007 they decided to take a break. During this time, the band members focused on solo projects. In 2014, Nickel Creek announced they were reuniting and released a new album, followed by another tour. So while they did take a break, Nickel Creek is very much together now.
Their Farewell (For Now) Tour was a farewell, but the “For Now” part was definitely a clue. It wasn’t a permanent goodbye. The members felt they had accomplished a lot in those years and wanted to explore different musical paths, but they weren’t ready to call it quits completely. This hiatus gave them a chance to work on individual projects. Chris Thile, the mandolin player, formed Punch Brothers and even won a Grammy Award for his work with The Goat Rodeo Session. Sara Watkins released solo albums and toured, showing off her songwriting and vocal skills. And Sean Watkins, the guitarist, continued to write and release his own music.
After some time away, the members felt ready to reunite and share their musical talents as Nickel Creek again. They felt their music was still relevant and that their fans were excited to hear new music. Their reunion was met with excitement, and it proved that even though they had taken a break, their connection as a band was stronger than ever.
